The last season of Game of Thrones and probably your first conscious Stone Season is finally upon us. With July, comes the best time of the year to enjoy stone fruits like Cherries, Plums and Peaches.
Stone fruits are quite simply fruits with large pits. Their vibrant taste with distinct juicy flavors are perfect for summers. But you must act quickly. Stone fruits are notoriously hard to store and must be eaten fresh.
Getting good stone fruits is considered hard- cherries and plums harder. Regardless of where you are, the best cherries, plums, peaches and other stone fruits come from excellent sites with superb air and water drainage systems as well as protection from high winds. But the rewards are well worth the effort involved.
Cherries for instance, is a fraglie crop and must be picked ripe. On the other hand, sweet or sour, cherries are an excellent source of vitamin C and potassium.
Plums is a stone fruit that can be classified into two kinds- Asian and European. Asian are rounder and larger and are almost always eaten fresh. Plums are filled with an insane range of phenols and flavonoids that have an immense rangeof health benefits.
Peaches come in flingstone and clingstone varieties, with a clingstone being fine for eating but difficult to slice. A freestone’s fruit seperates easily from the pit. In general, it is quite impossible to tell if a peach is a clingstone or a freestone by looks.
The backyard culture of apples or pears aren’t favourable to cherries, plums and peaches. And so, Terraa will soon introduce the need of the hour-the all new Stone Basket! Cherries, Plums and Peaches from the best of farms. Stay tuned!
